September Talk: ‘War and Peace and the Birth of Balbriggan RFC’ Caroline & David McMahon

On September 24th we were delighted to welcome Caroline and David McFadden for a talk on Balbriggan Rugby Club who are celebrating their centenary this year

The talk titled ‘War and Peace and the Birth of Balbriggan RFC’ took place in the Bracken Court Hotel on September 24th at 8pm.

Huge thanks to Caroline and David McFadden for a fantastic talk. The past-presidents and longtime club members of Balbriggan RFC presented a wonderful talk using the extensive research carried out for Caroline’s book ‘From Ropewalk to Bowhill”. Concentrating on the early years of Irish rugby and Balbriggan RFC they told not just the story of rugby but of the events and the people of this pivotal era in Balbriggan. The importance and huge impact of people like George Hamlet and George Scriven and the families like the McGowans, Cumiskeys, Larkins or Wades and William J McCormick our Irish Rugby International. We also saw the impact of the Sack of Balbriggan on the developing club.
